European Adventure Part IX: Day Two

Greenwich across the river

It was an uneasy night of sleep with my body still trying to adjust to the travel and the change in time zone, but when I woke up and opened the shades to outside, the light startled me. The sun was out!I It was going to be a great day in London.

A SLOW START

We’d planned for this morning to be a slow start. We could all ease into the trip at our own pace. For me this meant lazing around in bed until around 10:00am. Then I got up and slowly made my way from Bayswater to Fitzrovia for brunch at Where the Pancakes Are. I went to the same restaurant across town in November and loved it. I was eager to see if this location of the restaurant was the same.

I had the simple pancakes, with a fried egg, and some crispy bacon. It was also my first proper cuppa tea and it was very delicious. After brunch, we made our way across town to Canary Wharf. It had been so long since I’d been there and I was amazed at how much had changed! We took the DLR, which is a drive-less train, towards Greenwich so that we could take the Greenwich Tunnel under the Thames. A little something that Michael wanted to explore.

View of the Shard at Vinegar Yard

The tunnel was a short, but crowded, walk under the river. Greenwich was in full swing by the time we made it  across. We then took the train back towards Central London to London Bridge. It was time for a drink and a snack at Vinegar Yard. This spot is so cute! There were all these small food stalls with a bunch of picnic tables in the middle. The sun wasn’t out and it was a little cool, but it was still so delightful.

TIME FOR DINNER AND A SHOW!

The show was first. We headed across town to the Vaudeville Theatre to see SIX. It’s a show about the six wives of Henry XIII. It was like a fabulous pop concert and I LOVED it. After dinner, we took the Underground to Liverpool Street to get dinner at Duck and Waffle. This is a restaurant at the 40th floor of 110 Bishopsgate. We got there early and had some delicious drinks at the bar. For dinner, I had some lamb and a tasty glass of red wine. The views from the 40th floor were stunning.

Soon enough, it was time to head back to the west side of town. It was so a wonderful day, and I’m so ready for more time in my favorite city in the world.

UP NEXT: We’re leaving London for a few days and heading to Kew Gardens!
