Today we were headed to Versailles!

A SIDE WALK CAFE

This morning we enjoyed breakfast in a delicious sidewalk cafe. I loved the people watching as we sat there eating our omelets. Soon we were heading down to the train station to catch our train to Versailles...except that train was on a strike! I forgot to mention that that Air France was also striking on the day that we flew here and it's by God's grace that we made it to Paris at all.We walked back to the hotel to decide what to do. The person at the front desk told us that we could take the Metro and then a bus to get to Versailles so that's exactly what we did!

VERSAILLES!

After about an hour, we found ourselves in the town of Versailles and at the palace. It was a little overwhelming, honestly. Beyond the fact that it's a massive facility, it was overrun with people which really isn't my thing.  We pushed our way through the palace which was beautiful but it was also a lot! You can easily see why the French were so pissed off at Louis XIV, Versailles is extravagance to the max. After looking at the inside I, of course, had to go to the gift shop! I picked up a few cute things that I'm looking forward to taking home.

GARDENS!

It was time to explore the gardens. Considering the gardens at Versailles are over 230 acres we opted to rent a golf cart to get around the grounds. After being at Schönbrunn in Vienna, I was expecting something similar, but while Versailles differently wins when it comes to size, I'm not sure that it wins it terms of beautiful. Everything is just... a lot. The one things that I will say is that the canal that goes down the middle of the gardens is so beautiful and peaceful, and I was a little jealous of the people who were able to take canoes down the canal. It looked so relaxing.

BACK IN PARIS

We took the bus and the Metro back to Paris and I was so tired from the heat and from the people that I took a nap! Feeling refreshed, we decided to go for a walk to the Arc of Triumph and down the Champs-Elysee to close out out our last night in Paris, and what a lovely evening it was.

UP NEXT: My favorite city in the world: London.
