My Favorite Wedding Day Moment: The First Look
Amid a hectic and sometimes stressful wedding day, more and more couples are deciding to take a moment for themselves before the ceremony to enjoy a “First Look.” Here’s a little secret: this is my very favorite part of the wedding day. There’s a certain level of romance to it that makes my heart swell! While a First Look on the aisle is also delightful, there is something about intentionally taking a moment during the day that speaks to me. Maybe it’s my heart for being able to slow things down in the middle of the insanity.
Deciding whether to do a First Look before the ceremony is a very personal decision that should be made between you and your partner. Often times, the logistics around getting the couple situated so that no one sees them, and the photographer is ready can be some of the trickiest work we do all day, but that’s why I have three tips for you to make it as easy as possible.
Tip 1: Allow at least 45 minutes for this momentWhen you’re making your wedding timeline, make sure to allow for at least 45 minutes. It will give you and everyone else time to get into position. It also takes into consideration a few moments together and a few moments for photos.
Tip 2: Have someone help you find your mateIf you’ve opted out of using a wedding coordinator, tap a friend or family to help coordinate where you’re going to be, and where your partner will be to make the experience as smooth as possible.
Tip 3: Plan the First Look after hair and makeupThe best time to plan your First Look is as soon as hair and makeup are done and you’re both dressed. Usually there are a few minutes before the bridal party photos start and this is the perfect time to have your alone moment. After your First Look photos, if there’s time, you can take photos of the bridal party before heading to the ceremony. If you’re not interested in doing the first look before the ceremony, there’s nothing wrong with that either. A First Look on the aisle is something I still love seeing! In my experience, taking a moment to be together after the ceremony,, before heading into the party can calm harried nature of the day, and re-energize you.Until next time...
