Outlander Tea
Exactly six months from hosting the Jane Austen Birthday Tea, it was time to another afternoon of tea and conversation. This time the topic was Outlander - the novels and television show. Outlander is something that I have loved since I read the first book in the series in the 1990s, and my love for the story grew even more when I had the chance in 2014 to meet one of its characters, Scotland. There's a loyal following for all things Clan Fraser, and I was looking forward to being a room with those who had a love for the saga.
While the look at feel for Jane Austen was a feminine and romantic, the focus this time was rustic and and whimsical. We went to local thrifts stores to find as many brass props as possible, and back around Christmas time I purchased all of the pretty plaid fabric that I could find to serve as the runner for our table. I was so happy with how everything turned out, and I think the pictures capture the design quite well.
The venue was the perfect match, and we hosted the event in the dining room of the Dower House. The fire place, chandeliers, and paintings on the wall were the perfect match to the theme. Our menu for the afternoon consisted of watercress rolls, chocolate ganache on shortbread cookies, and swan profiteroles, mini jeweled fruit tarts and more. Something that was unique about this tea is that tea also included a turn of Tudor Place. If you can't tell by now, I really walking around historic homes and I was glad that other seemed to enjoy that, too!
I also loved the conversation that we had. There was a discussion around what makes the story so compelling to you, and I found that I agreed with many of those who mentioned that it was the idea that there is a love that follows this couple through time, and they go through so much, but still find a way to be together.
Next up is the Harry Potter Tea! Just in time for Halloween we'll be hosting a tea where guests will be able to share their love for all things Harry Potter.
