European Adventure Part VI: Day 3
It was our last day in Budapest and we were going to make the most of the time we had left!
BREAKFAST This morning we had breakfast at this adorable restaurant called Vintage Garden. It was all white on white down to the chandeliers, and then there were several installations of cherry blossoms. That’s right, I just escaped the cherry blossom fever in Washington, only to be eating breakfast in a restaurant featuring them, but there were very few tourists at this cherry blossom experience so that made it okay.
THE BATHSNext, we walked through the Jewish Quarter to catch the metro up to the City Park. This is a charming green space in that has the Széchenyi baths in it, as well as a few museums that are housed in stunning romantic and medieval style buildings. The Széchenyi baths are massive and have several pools that are inside at outside. Just walking on the outside of the building is impressive. Opened in 1913, the building itself is in the Neo-Baroque style and is a holdover from when the Ottoman Empire held the country. We only tried out about seven of the pools, and there were several that we missed! The last time I was at the baths it was super cold which made the outside portion of the baths not so enjoyable. This time, however, was different. We went the inside baths, to explore and then we went outside to largest pool. Sitting there in the sunshine, I turned my face up to the sky with those big, puffy clouds and felt all of the stress of the last few weeks seep out, and full relaxation seep in. I was finally on vacation…After we were finished in the City Park, we made our way to the airport and caught our flight to Copenhagen. This trip to Budapest was so different from the last one, even though we went several of the same places that I’d been to before. I’m looking forward to going back to Hungary in a few years and exploring more of the country!
UP NEXT: Denmark! We’re starting off with a walking tour to get to know the city a bit, then we’re doing some garden touring.
